Somadoc Engine
A Rust document pipeline with its own IR and the Typst typesetting core, aimed at in-process PDF and per-page SVG output.
STATUS BUILDING · OPEN SOURCE SOON
QUESTION
Can a document be compiled as structure rather than a sequence of pixels, so authors see publish-grade results while writing?
PRACTICE
Somadoc implements parsing and a document IR in Rust, compiles Markdown and its handwritten LaTeX math into Typst, and hands the result to the Typst typesetting core to produce PDF or per-page SVG in-process.
The boundary matters: Typst is the typesetting core. Somadoc owns parsing, the IR, incremental compilation contexts, block-level source maps and output. It does not depend on Pandoc, a LaTeX distribution or an external CLI. Per-page SVG lets a preview address individual blocks; persistent contexts avoid re-laying-out unchanged content.
EVIDENCE
The project is in its open-source planning stage: the core crates, license and public boundary are still under review, so this page does not link to a repository. The only publicly verifiable experience is the Lab shell with a mock adapter; the real engine is not attached yet, and the site does not claim to generate PDF online.
Design goals include PDF/per-page SVG, block-level source maps, incremental compilation and CJK typesetting. Each should be accepted against fixed fixtures and reproducible builds once the real engine is attached.
